How UPS Became The Gold Standard

There’s a great expression that says “tough times don’t last, tough people do”.

There’s no question that the last year has been extremely challenging for everyone. On a personal level as well as on a business level, everything has been challenged.

Yet, despite that, many brands have been committed to finding a way to not only survive but to thrive. UPS has done exactly that.

I’ve been a long time fan of theirs and recently reached out to their Vice President and Head of Legal at UPS Airlines, Andrew Cooper to hear directly from them about what challenges they’ve faced and how they overcame them.

Here is a quick section of this wonderful interview:

2020 was a year that no one expected, and with that came many challenges, illness, and social reform. Luckily, there are companies that have dedicated their time, finances, and efforts to supporting the healing of our nation as a whole. UPS, for example, has been at the forefront of COVID-19 with efforts to deliver PPE and the newly developed vaccines to citizens who need them across the country. To learn more about what UPS is doing to help during this time, SBJ correspondent Chloe Caldwell spoke with Andrew Cooper, Vice President and Head of Legal at UPS Airlines. Check out how the conversation went below.

Chloe Caldwell: What are some of the challenges that UPS faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and what has UPS done to support their employees during this time?

Andrew Cooper: As part of our culture of safety, UPS has gone to great lengths to ensure the well-being of our employees during the coronavirus pandemic. We have provided workers with masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer; we have mandated mask usage and social distancing; and we have enhanced cleaning protocols for our buildings, vehicles, and aircraft. In addition, we have thorough contact tracing and quarantine protocols. We continue to educate employees on public health practices, and we have paid leave programs for employees who test positive or are directed to quarantine by a medical clinician.

UPS has worked proactively with state and local health agencies to further enhance our coronavirus safety programs. Our protocols are consistent with direction from the CDC, WHO, and state and local health directives where we operate.

As essential workers, UPSers have been heroes during the pandemic, moving shipments that are saving lives and livelihoods around the world. We are proud of their efforts, and we remain confident they will continue operating safely and reliably for our customers as we move beyond the holidays and continue delivering vaccines.
